Week 5: March 9 - 15 (Orange Seed)

Ricotta cheese. It's unpasteurized and i've eaten it twice already. WTH. There is so much to learn with pregnancy. What you can and cannot eat, what you can and cannot do, what you should eat and do. I mean at the end of the day if Whitney "Crackhead" Houston and Britney "Out of Control" Spears can have beautiful, what appears to be healthy kids, I should be able to as well, right? Let the lifelong worrying begin. I am a perfectionist and this is all overwhelming. I'm so worried about my little Poppy Seed. This week we headed to Miami for a work trip for Yoel/R&R. We got to Miami late Thursday and went straight to a dinner with some of Yoel's clients. It was sweet of them to include me, but I was exhausted! The heightened sense of smell has kicked in. I'm still able to enjoy food, but am incredibly nauseous. I packed Ginger Snaps, Saltines, Lay's, Dried Fruit as my snacks - and I intend on eating well as much as I can. I do still have that sense of feeling hungover, but being able to eat is still awesome. Friday I enjoyed a restful day by the pool, reading the latest Book Club assignment: Firefly Lane. I ordered a virgin pina colada, and minus a little bloating in the mid-section, I still pulled off a bikini like a Miami Hottie. This trip was also cool because we got to see Sydney and Florence, Yoel's paternal grandparents. We decided we wouldn't tell family till after the 1st doctor's appointment, but we could not pass up the opportunity to tell his grandparents in person. We saw them Saturday and grandma had made lunch. We were sitting at the table and showing them some pictures from our wedding. I had stuck in the pile the picture of the positive pee test. It took grandma a second to register, and she figured it out! Grandma and Grandpa were so excited! Grandma's best friend, Bunny, was also there and she cried at hearing the news. This was so touching and so sweet. I love them and can't wait for them to meet our little one soon enough. Another cool thing about this weekend was being VIP, back stage at Calle Ocho - the largest Hispanic street fair in the US. I finally understood that whole wanting to throw up at odd smells. The street fair had 17 blocks full of stalls all with roasted meats, fried foods, cheeses - combined with the heat - I was gagging and making faces the whole time. Queue pregnancy. I was exhausted, but couldn't pass up being behind the scenes. We were next to the stage with Sean Paul performed and Poppy got an earful of bass - good thing his eardrums weren't developed yet. We were on the stage when Flo Rida performed and one day I can tell Poppy his mom was so cool and did it all while knocked up.

  1. Ricotta isn't necessary off-limits. We can NOT eat: feta, Brie, Camembert, blue-veined cheesesl and Mexican style cheeses such as queso fresco, queso blanco and panela.

"Cottage cheese, ricotta, cream cheese, processed cheese (such as American), and hard cheese (such as cheddar and Parmesan), as well as cultured dairy products like yogurt and buttermilk, are generally considered safe -- either because they’re made with pasteurized milk or because they're processed in ways that help inhibit the growth of the bacteria."
